The ancient wisdom of Ho'ala Huna defines wellness as a place of "pono". Pono is a Hawai`ian word that means "the place of balance where life energy flows in a space of light". It is the kind of health where the body's physical state exists in a state of dynamic balance with the person's mental, emotional, and spiritual states.
What is Holistic Healing?
Holistic healing recognizes that the patient's mental, emotional, and spiritual states must all be considered along with their physical state if a lasting condition of balance or wellness is to be restored. This is how we define "healing".
The form of holistic medicine we
follow is known as Hoala Huna. It is very ancient, (the Hawai`ians say
it is over 40,000 years old) yet very grounded system of wisdom. Its first
principle is: Belief is necessary only for that which is not real. That
which is real can be recognized because it works reliably and
flawlessly. It employs a method of spiritual healing known as
Hooponopono and physical healing known as Laau
Lapaau.
Ours is a system of medicine
based upon the recognition that the body has a powerful innate ability
to heal itself when it is thrown out of balance in some way. This
out-of-balance condition, known as disease or dis-ease, is a
state where the flow of life energy is perceived as diminished in some way by
the patient.
It recognizes the fact that the causative agents of
disease can be internal or external. Examples of external causes of disease are
things like physical injuries due to accidents or exposure to poisons or
pathogenic organisms. Examples of internal causes of disease are things like
lifestyle choices (smoking, poor diet, etc.), stress (caused by fear-based ways
of looking at the world), and even the bodys own natural aging process!
Hoala Huna is not the
only form of holistic medicine. There are many others including Ayurveda,
Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy, and Naturopathy to name but a few.
What is Natural Medicine?
Systems of Natural Medicine aid the body to heal by using
natural remedies as distinct from orthodox forms of
medicine, which generally seek to combat disease by using synthetic
pharmaceutical remedies or invasive therapies like surgery.
Natural Medicine often incorporates many therapeutic modalities including the use of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, glandulars, herbs, and homeopathics, as well as the use of cleansing and detoxification therapies, nutritional therapy, hydrotherapy, exercise therapy, physical therapy, massage therapy and lifestyle counseling. Additionally, some Naturopaths practice the Chinese forms of acupuncture and acupressure, or elect to continue their education to receive a license to practice natural childbirth.
What is the philosophy behind your form of Naturopathic Medicine?
As we mentioned elsewhere, the system of naturopathy that we teach is grounded in the philosophy known as Ho'ala Huna an extremely ancient and comprehensive system of wisdom. It teaches that the most important doctor is the intelligence built within your body, and the best medicine is whatever one can do to support the body's natural ability to heal itself in the most natural and non-invasive way possible.
We teach the value of many proven and powerful natural therapies to detoxify and rebuild the body's organs and systems, rebalance natural body chemistry, and release and heal the destructive effects of various kinds of stress.
